About

If you’re floating through motherhood trying desperately to tether yourself to the present while slipping slowly into a vortex of memories, then we should be friends.

I’m a mom of two girls who often wallows in how swiftly their childhood is passing me by. My grandmother was a poet, so deep down I think I’m trying this wordsmith thing as an homage. I’m also an educator, so forgive me if some of my very full time job outside of the house creeps into the content.

I appreciate when moms list things like “wife, daughter, reader” and other roles in their bios. Sure, I am other things – a million things like most moms – yet, “mom” is the only role that keeps me up at night, that is all consuming, that is life’s purpose and its greatest treasure to me.

When my daughters were younger, we visited a popular chicken restaurant like most families do and the cashier named me “grytshirtw/kids” on the receipt so that some bumbling teenager could recognize our table. Luckily the receipt caught my eye instead of the typical slow fall to the floor with the rest of the hazards of eating with children from our meal. Some women may have been offended, but I was tickled pink. I was SEEN. For the first time in a long time, some rando had so aptly summarized my very existence. I did wear that grey t-shirt way too often and I am a rather grey person. Nothing too fancy, enjoys changing into homeless clothes as soon as I walk through the door, keeps a low profile, follows the rules of life, and has been called a “square” by her own sister. That’s me. Still wearing the same bras and underwear I had when my children were born. Still not getting my nails did. Just a plain jane who loves her children with an immense depth of gratitude and adoration. Thank you for branding my journey through motherhood, Mr. Chicken Cashier. You have no idea what you sparked within a tired mama.

Thank you for visiting my little corner of the wide web and hopefully something you read has resonated with you. Whether you’re a grey t-shirt type of mom or a fashionista, we are all blessed to be called mothers. Cheers to drinking in the years, the milestones, and every tiny moment we can capture along the way!
